2018 Annual Report
The Friends Committee
Message from the President:
As we move into the new year of 2019, I am very elated about the job that we are doing as the Friends Committee and very excited about what is to come. We have forged partnerships with quite a few community non-profits and have built a strong
presence in the Raleigh/Wake County Area and beyond. Since our beginning, the Friends Committee has been at the “tip of the spear” in combating social ills plaguing our community.
Our commitment to this resolve remains strong as we continue our work in bringing relief to those that are suffering.
Johnny Blaylock, President

Our Story
The work of the Friends Committee began in the late 1980s when concerned citizens in southeast Raleigh witnessed the untimely deaths of friends, neighbors and family members from opioid use and AIDS. At that time, the focus of the Friends
Committee was to empower the community by increasing awareness of substance use and HIV/AIDS through education and service. Today the mission remains the same. Our vision however has expanded to address areas of any social injustice, which negatively impacts the quality of life of citizens.
